Wow! We survived our 1st week of school! The kids have been working so hard this week on analyzing characters and using multiplication. I am so proud at their effort thus far and cannot wait to see how they do this week on their tests!
This week we will be working on ....
Reading - Analyzing character's actions and motivations
Math - Division (not as scary as it sounds!! simple factor family division problems)
Science - the Scientific Method
Writing - Writing a paragraph
Friday will be a big test day! The kids will be taking a spelling, math, and science test. I promise there will be fun games and activites between these tests! So far, all of the kids have been doing great on their math and spelling. I will send home a study guide this week for their science test. Please have your child review the scientific method at home using the study guide. The kids will need to know the steps, what each step includes, and identify from a "mock" experiment what step is being described.
On to week 2 ... and the 4 day weekend to follow! :)
Welcome! The purpose of this blog is to give parents and students a place to find great resources to help best support 4th graders! Also, I am hoping that this blog helps create another bridge of communication between myself and others. Please check back to this site often to find weekly updates, websites, games, and other important announcements!

MTSS
Hello parents!
I wanted to post a letter from the 3-5 Principal, Vickie Kelly, about MTSS (Multi-tiered System of Supports). MTSS is being pushed from the state of Kansas to provide additional support for our students to succeed in reading and mathematics. We have integrated 50 minutes into our schedule of additional math and reading instruction to really give students the extra boost they need to do great on the state assessments! Please click on the image below to read the letter from our amazing Principal!

Give away books by reading at home!
I just found a great website and resource that I had to share! If you are interested in reading books with your child, then look no further than WE GIVE BOOKS (a Pearson Foundation Initiative - http://www.wegivebooks.org). This website has tons of children's books online that you can read. By reading these books, you are also donating a book for every one you read to someone who does not have books! You also can choose the campaign you want to have your books donated to. (Tinga Tinga Tales, America's Children's Museum on Wheels: StoryBus, LEAP Into a Great Story - LCPBC, Read for Chicago Public Schools, & Jumpstart for Young Children)
I encourage you and your child to sit down and read some of these classic children books. If you click on the "books" section, and then select the tab "all books," you can then browse by age. For 4th grade, I suggest the age range between 8-10. If you have younger children, it would be great to have your 4th grader read some of the easier picture books to them!
Again - visit http://www.wegivebooks.org!

About Me
- Janae Beahan
- I have always known that my career would involve working with children. I volunteered and worked with a summer camp in Derby, KS for eight summers, to which I owe my games and song collection that are popularly used in the classroom. I am an alumna of the sorority Alpha Gamma Delta and the University of Kansas. I have been happily married for over two years to my best friend, Eric. Together, we share a three year old beagle, Ellie May. I enjoy reading, playing board games, and watching Grey’s Anatomy. I am so grateful to do what I love everyday. I cannot wait to teach this new group of 4th graders!
